Special Mould Tooling

The mould tooling can have the following key features:

The main standard elements of mould tools form part of the machine and the other specific elements are mainly: the cavity, core, coolant channels, ejector pins and; any required in-mould devices.

The flow problems with large multi-cavity tools can be problematic and the costs of the associated back-up tooling can be very significant.  However, with the Indestep Machine a back-up mould tool consists only of the above specific elements.

Injection is straight into the cavities thereby eliminating the need for sprues.

 

bullet

Comparatively lower clamping forces for the same throughput offer possibilities for `softer' tools.

 

bullet

In general, the relatively smaller mould tools with their comparatively reduced number of cavities are less complex.

 

bullet

 Access is available for devices that operate on the top and bottom of the mould tool, thereby partially overcoming the constraints of traditional platens.

 

bullet

For small runs, a family of mouldings can be produced.

 

bullet

Not  all of the mould tools need contain cavities as these can be bypassed if required.

 

bullet

In particular for prototype mouldings, the specific elements of the single mould tool would only be required for producing these mouldings.  These specific elements would not need to be scrapped and can be used as the basis for the other specific elements for the mould tools that will make up the intended full sets.
